The Korea Institute of Child Care and Education held the 1st ECEC Policy Symposium under the theme of “Addressing the Future of Childcare Policy in the Era of Demographic Change” on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the UNESCO Hall, 11th floor of the UNESCO Building in Seoul.

The symposium began with welcoming remarks from President Ock Kyeung Hwang, followed by keynote presentations from Dr. Hyo Mi Choi and Dr. Keun Jin Kim, both Research Fellows at the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education.

Dr. Choi presented on “Key Issues and Challenges of Childcare Support Policies for an Aging and Shrinking Society,” and Dr. Kim delivered a presentation on “Childcare Policy Proposals in Response to the Population Crisis and Changing Demographic Structure.”

The designated discussants included:

– Dr. Young Me Kim, Professor at Dongseo University

– Dr. Hye Won Shin, Professor at Seokyeong University

– Dr. Hyerim Park, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Local Finance

– Dr. Sun Mi Cho, Associate Research Fellow at the Korean Women’s Development Institute

– Dr. Woojin Lee, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements

The event concluded with a general discussion session involving all presenters and panelists.
