Spring Academic Conference on “Challenges for Children’s Rights in Korea” Co-hosted with the Korean Council for Children’s Rights
The Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE) co-hosted the 2025 Spring Academic Conference with the Korean Council for Children’s Rights under the theme “Challenges for Children’s Rights in Korea” on Friday, May 30, 2025. The event took place at Room 612, Sunheon Building, Sookmyung Women’s University.
The conference opened with congratulatory remarks by National Assembly Member Sun-hee Baek, President Ock Kyeung Hwang of KICCE, President Ick-Joong Chung of the National Center for the Rights of the Child, and President Hyung Mo Kim of the Korean Council for Children’s Rights. The event was moderated by Eunseol Kim, Director of the Office of Fertility Support Policy Research at KICCE.
Presentations and discussions were delivered by Professor Hyunah Kang and Professor Young ae Lee of Sookmyung Women’s University; Mi-jung Kang, Head of the Child Protection Team at Save the Children; Research Fellow Min Young Jang of the Korea Legislation Research Institute; Attorney Young Eun Kang of ChildFund Korea; Professor Eun Kyung Bae of Honam University; Kyung Sook Lim, Head of the Child Rights Advocacy Team at Good Neighbors; and Eun Young Kim, Head of the Policy Research Team at World Vision.
From KICCE, participants included Yunjin Lee, Director of the Office of Planning and Coordination; Eun Jin Kang, Director of the Office of Early Childhood Policy Research; Jayeon Kim, Head of the Research Planning and Evaluation Team; Ah Reum Kim, Head of the Future Education and Care Research Team; and Associate Research Fellow Jiyoun Lee.
The conference featured presentations and discussions on key issues including the necessity of enacting the Basic Act on Children, risk and protective factors influencing behavioral development of children in out-of-home care, children’s rights in digital environments, and the rights of children in need of special care. Associate Research Fellow Jiyoun Lee of KICCE gave a thematic presentation on “Risk and Protective Factors Affecting Behavioral Development of Children in Out-of-home Care.”
