On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE) held a retirement ceremony for Senior Research Fellow Dr. Nam Hee Do. The event was a meaningful occasion to honor Dr. Do’s remarkable research achievements and to reflect on her journey with the institute.
Dr. Do dedicated approximately 14 years to KICCE, engaging in devoted research activities throughout her tenure. In particular, she made significant contributions to the systematic development of early childhood developmental data through numerous empirical and scientific studies, including the Panel Study on Korean Children, thereby laying a solid foundation for child development research.
Her work also addressed a wide range of topics aimed at improving the quality of life for young children, such as fostering child- and parenting-friendly environments, investigating the actual conditions of early childhood life, and exploring ways to enhance happiness during early childhood. In addition, she conducted policy-oriented research that informed government decisions, including studies on meal and snack support for kindergartens and childcare centers, and the promotion of workplace childcare facilities.
During the ceremony, Dr. Do’s major research accomplishments were presented, followed by the awarding of a plaque of appreciation and a bouquet of flowers. In her retirement speech, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to the institute and her colleagues, and shared her hopes and determination for the new chapter ahead.
