The Korea Institute of Child Care and Education hosted the 15th Conference of Panel Study on Korean Children at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday, September 6, 2024. The Panel Study on Korean Children is a long-term longitudinal study that began with a first-round survey in 2008, targeting children born that year, and will continue tracking their growth and development through early childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood until 2027, when they reach the age of 19. The Conference of Panel Study on Korean Children has been held annually since the first survey data was publicly released in 2010, marking this year as the 15th conference. This year's conference featured studies utilizing the 15th-year data collected in 2022, focused on second-year middle school students (adolescents). A total of 27 presentations were made across 11 sessions, which included eight themed sessions and three sessions co-hosted by various academic associations.


Research findings were also presented by members of the co-hosting associations: the Korean Education Research Association, the Korean Society For the Study of Educational Administration, the Korean Parents Education Association, the Korea Association for Early Childhood Education and Care, and the Korea Child Care Coaching Association.


The first part of the conference began with an opening address by Director Hwang Ock kyeung, followed by congratulatory remarks from Kim Do Ki, President of the Korean Society For the Study of Educational Administration; Do Mi-Hyang, President of the Korean Parents Education Association; Lee Eunju, President of the Korean Council For Children'S Rights; and Ryu Seong Yeol, President of the Korean Association of Youth Welfare. Awards were presented for the Graduate Student Thesis Competition, and the results of a policy contest for panel children were reported. This was followed by an introduction to the Panel Study on Korean Children by Senior Researcher Cho Mira. In the first part, research presentations were conducted across four themed sessions: academics, career, physical development, and parenting.


In the second part, Professor Kim Jae-chul from the Department of Education at Hannam University led a statistics workshop for panel data users on the topic of "Latent Growth Modeling and Growth Mixture Modeling Using the Children’s Panel Data." Following this, special sessions and paper presentation sessions were held by members of the co-hosting associations, along with four themed sessions focused on executive functions, media, depression, and work-life balance.
